Tunis — The Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, Mr. Abdessalem Mansour, chaired on Thursday in Tunis, a working session devoted to monitoring cereal crop.
The informations presented show that mobilized investments for funding of the new season cereal crop have reached 60 million dinars and may be increased at the request of farmers.
Decided by the "Banque Nationale Agricole" (BNA), this increase is explained by the increasing rate of debt repayment by farmers whose volume has exceeded the ceiling of 98 million dinars and the repayment of 92% of seasonal agricultural loan.
During the meeting, the Minister stressed the need to accelerate the supply regarding large regions of crops in sufficient quantities of improved seeds and good quality.
He also recommended providing areas of grain production with fertilizers and necessary treatments.
Planting areas are estimated at 200,000 hectares and could reach the end of the sowing period 1 million 500 000 hectares.
