Tunis — President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali sent a message to Leader of the Great September 1st Revolution, chairman of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) Council, chairman of the African Union (AU) and chairman of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) Mouammar Gueddafi.

In this message, the Head of State voiced deep thanks and gratitude for the noble position of principle of the Presidency of the African Union, the Arab Maghreb Union and the Community of Sahel-Saharan States, a stand that reasserts these authorities' rejection of all forms of interference by foreign states and groupings in sovereign African states' domestic affairs and the haughty disdain of their constitutions or legal systems.

"While we highly praise this stand and appreciate it at its true value," the Head of State adds, "we reiterate to you our firm will to carry on joint action to preserve our States' sovereignty and the independence of their decision and choice and defend their peoples' dignity, while we also categorically refuse to be lectured by anyone."

President Ben Ali also underlines, in this message, that "today, Africa is able to fully command its destiny and materialise the Africans' aspirations to progress, well-being, security and invulnerability, thanks to its leaders' wisdom, its peoples' awareness, its national accomplishments and skills, as part of attachment to the attributes of its identity, its civilisational belonging, its pride and its dignity."
