Kenya: Go, Harambee Stars, Go!

13 November 2009

editorial

Nairobi — Who between Kenya and Nigeria wins a ticket to next year's World Cup in South Africa is to be decided in just over 90 minutes on Saturday.

While the statistics and the odds are in favour of the Super Eagles of Nigeria as they have won on nine occasions and drawn twice in this tournament, scoring 26 goals against Kenya's five in 11 fixtures, there is every hope that Harambee Stars will break the jinx and register the first win.

The prospect of qualifying for the Africa Nations Cup in Angola in January is enough reason for the home team to throw into the match all they have and restore Kenyans' faith and hope in the local football.

Besides, the current World Cup trophy tour of Kenya has rekindled people's passion for football, giving them great hopes for victory.

It is our hope that the ghost of German coach Antoine Hey, who last week deserted duty, will not haunt the boys.

Such is the rivalry between these two sides that although Kenya are enjoying a home advantage, they must be at their best to stop Nigeria's dream of returning to the World Cup.

In the meantime, we wish Harambee Stars the best of luck as they seek to shoot down the high-flying Eagles.

Go, boys, go!
