The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) began transporting provisional voters lists to polling stations across the country in preparation for the upcoming presidential election.
The United Nations' Special Representative in Côte d'Ivoire, Young-Jin Choi, announced the beginning of the operation on 11 November.
UNOCI will be in charge of distributing the lists around Abidjan, while the country's local independent electoral commissions and UNDP will cover the rest of the country.
Local teams supervised by UNDP have configured, tested and packed 400 IT kits including computers, printers, telephones, fax machines and scanners for the local independent electoral commissions.
The equipment will be delivered as part of UNDP's logistical support for the election. The organization is managing a 34 million USD basket fund with contributions from the European Union, Japan, France, Great-Britain, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Germany and UNDP.
The elections were planned for 29 November but have been once more postponed. They represent an important step in solving the crisis that has divided the country since 2002.
