Harare — Fireworks are expected today when Zanu-PF electoral colleges meet in the country's 10 provinces to elect the new Presidium and Central Committee members with Cde Naison Ndlovu insisting that he is still in the race for the Vice Presidency.
On the other hand, Cde Didymus Mutasa has also thrown his hat into the ring for the national chairman's post and will square it up with Cde Simon Khaya Moyo.
Former PF-Zapu Central Committee members met in Bulawayo last week and nominated Cdes John Nkomo and Simon Khaya Moyo for the positions of Vice President and National Chairman respectively.
In a telephone interview from Esigodini yesterday, Cde Naison Ndlovu dismissed the Bulawayo meeting, which endorsed Cde Nkomo as a non-event.
He said the meeting was mainly attended by members from Bulawayo Province, which already had endorsed Cde Nkomo.
Cde Ndlovu said he never withdrew his candidature for the VP's position as alleged by acting political commissar Cde Richard Ndlovu.
"I don't recognise the Bulawayo meeting resolution because it largely comprised of Bulawayo people and not other provinces and surprisingly to Richard Ndlovu it represents the entire region.
"It is a blatant lie that I withdrew my candidature and to me it is a serious allegation because how can I withdraw my candidature when I have the support of the people on the ground. I withdrew my candidature for the national chairman's position because they wanted to choose me but I said no I will stand for the VP and that people will decide," Cde Ndlovu said.
He said the chairman's post was up for grabs by anyone and thus he wanted a position, which answers the Unity Accord of 1987, since he was the most senior member than Cde Nkomo who was "down the line" in the party hierarchy.
Cde Ndlovu also took a swipe at acting political commissar Cde Richard Ndlovu whom he accused of abusing his position by denying other cadres an opportunity to exercise their rights.
He said the acting political commissar was in that position at the mercy of the President who appointed him yet he has a Senate constituency, which showed that he has support on the ground.
"Richard Ndlovu is abusing his position as he is now acting as a campaign manager for John Nkomo which is contrary to his job description.
"As for me I represent two constituencies in Insiza North and South and Richard (Ndlovu), he is just there as a Presidential appointee but just wait for tomorrow's (today's) nominations I will come tops because I have the support of the people," declared Cde Naison Ndlovu.
Responding to the allegations levelled against him by Cde Naison Ndlovu, Cde Richard Ndlovu said he was just discharging his duties and thus Cde Naison Ndlovu had no basis to make such allegations.
