Harare — Newly-elected Zanu-PF Harare provincial chairman, Cde Amos Midzi, has extended an olive branch to his rival in the recent polls, Cde Hubert Nyanhongo, calling for unity in the party.
In an interview after holding a meeting with district co-ordinating committees at the party headquarters on Thursday, Cde Midzi said Cde Nyanhongo was welcome to join him in re-invigorating Zanu-PF in the province.
Cde Midzi and his executive were holding their second meeting after convening a provincial executive committee meeting on Wednesday.
"I am really concerned with what happened during the past year.
"We, however, need to put emphasis to let bygones be bygones.
"As an executive we are calling on everyone in the province to stand by one leader so that we work and grow the party in Harare," he said.
All DCC members elected during the restructuring exercise attended the meeting.
"They are here not because they support an individual but because they are members of Zanu-PF," he said.
Cde Midzi said he was also looking forward to working with Cde Nyanhongo as a member of the provincial co-ordinating committee and Member of the House of Assembly in the province.
"I do not believe in enmity or hatred. We need, as a province, to look at the challenges we face.
"The elections are over and this is an extension of goodwill to Cde Nyanhongo and all other members, who believe in the party," he said.
Cde Midzi said there was need to learn from experience so that the party regains its majority in Harare province.
"We learn from experience. We need to improve and work on an articulate mobilisation of members in the province while maintaining credible records.
"There is also need for a targeted outreach to strengthen party structures while looking at material needs of the people in Harare," he said.
Addressing the party leadership at the meeting, Cde Midzi called for unity to ensure the growth of the party in Harare.
"We are the leadership of the party in the province and we are going to work together. There is no (DCC) chairman for Midzi or Nyanhongo but we will work as the leadership of the party.
"Most of the problems we have faced in the province are due to indiscipline. But we need to be disciplined so that we make the party structures in province strong," he said.
