Zimbabwe: Brothers Accused of Theft

14 November 2009

Harare — A senior prison officer and his brother have appeared before a Harare court for allegedly stealing essential medical drugs worth US$5 576 from the Chikurubi Training Depot Hospital pharmacy.

Principal Prison Officer Joseph Sirora (36), and his brother Naboth (30) were remanded out of custody to December 1 this year on US$50 bail each by magistrate Mr Munamato Mutevedzi.

It is the State's case that sometime between January 1 and November 5 this year, Sirora -- acting in common purpose with his brother -- stole drugs from Chikurubi Prison Training Depot Hospital's main pharmacy.

They allegedly took their loot to Servenok Distributors, a company in which the two are directors.

Police officers, acting on a tip-off, raided Servenok Distributors and recovered the drugs.

Mr Relaxon Mandizvidza represented the State.
