Zambia: Police Round Up 14, Gun Down Suspect

POLICE have picked up 14 people, among them, those who recently shot and wounded a Lebanese businessman in Lusaka while in Kalulushi a suspected notorious criminal was shot dead.

Lusaka Province Commanding officer Greenwell N'guni said the 14 were rounded up separately following an operation conducted in Lusaka and that the police were currently screening the suspects before charging them.

Mr Ng'uni said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday the suspects were linked to the recent shooting of a Lebanese national at his Roma house before they got away with undisclosed amount of money.

Some of the arrested suspects have been linked to the shooting dead of an Asian woman while her husband was wounded as there were waiting for the gate to be opened in Lusaka's Kamwala Township.

In Kalulushi, police at the weekend shot dead a notorious criminal who was being sought in connection with various other robberies and thefts.

Copperbelt Police chief Antoneil Mutentwa and Kalulushi District Commissioner Joshua Mutisa confirmed the incident which he said happened in the early hours of yesterday.
