Lafia — Nasarawa State government has said efforts are being redoubled towards the execution of the various projects embarked upon to provide water for the people and to end the attendant water related diseases.
The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Abdullahi Oga, told Daily Trust that government has sunk boreholes in rural communities to stem the scarcity, with 300 new additional ones at the cost of N245 million.
The commissioner added that repair work is currently on going on the Lafia water works which parts had been dysfunctional. This, according to him, will cost the government N230 million.
"If we finish rehabilitation and the networks are provided, Lafia and environs will enjoy constant water supply," he said, adding that what is being pumped at the moment is regularly being tempered with by the persistent break in power supply.
Government itself has confirmed the prevailing water crisis in the state as Director of Media and Publicity to Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma, Ibrahim Addra said the administration is worried, following which much effort is being put in to execute water projects with the capacity to arrest the scarcity and attendant epidemic from water born diseases.
