Uganda: Boy Punishes Grandfather

Kampala — A local council court in Bufuula village, Budondo subcounty was on Monday stunned when a boy confessed that he placed a dead snake in the doorway of his grandfather's house as a punishment.

It all started on Sunday morning when Ronald, a student, decided to harvest some coffee from his grandfather's plantation, purportedly to get money to buy scholastic materials.

His grandfather, only identified as Manoli, who had gone for prayers returned and found him picking coffee from his garden and stopped him.

Ronald grabbed his (Manoli's) walking stick and threatened to beat him up. The old man made an alarm and Ronald disappeared before neighbours converged.

The next morning, the neighbours again rushed to Mzee Manoli's home after they heard an alarm. They found Manoli and members of his family terrified and afraid of getting out of the house as a big dead snake was hanging in their doorway.

Calm only returned when Birabwa, who is Manoli's daughter and mother to Ronald, revealed that the dead snake actually resembled the one she and Ronald had killed in their house the previous night.

They hunted for him and the LC court, chaired by Robert Nabuti, compelled him to apologise and promise that he would never do it again.
