If there is a place where utl Kobs can arrest their slump and turn the corner, it's got to be the Dam waters grounds in Jinja. The ground located on the banks of the source of River Nile is the scene of Kobs' last major success achieved during last year's 7s circuit.
Times have changed so fast that as Kobs - and other sides desperate for any kind of success - visit the home of Nile RFC for the third leg of this year's Broadband Sevens circuit firmly stuck in the shadow of MTN Heathens.
"Jinja is supposed to be some sort of comfort zone but it's getting tougher for everyone to challenge Heathens. Any success in Jinja can lift our morale," Herbert Wafula, the Kobs coach, told Saturday Monitor.
Kobs, three-time Uganda 7s champions, are still counting the losses of the Hima-Makerere 10s exit which came with injuries to Emanuel Walakira and Ambrose Kamanyiire.
Whatever they do, Heathens - coming off a commanding show in defending the Hima-Mak 10s - are firm favourites to make it three wins in as many legs to move closer to a seventh Uganda 7s crown.
"Our aim this season to win all four legs of the circuit. We are really focused and every success has only enhanced our hunger to achieve more," Heathens winger Michael Wokorach asserted.
After two legs, Heathens lea the 7s standings with 40, 16 clear of G4S Pirates, Kobs and Makerere University Hima Impis who are tied in second while Toyota Buffaloes are fifth., further four.
Impis, who surprised many by reaching the final of the last leg - Kitaka 7s will want to build on that performance. "Impis has lots of potential and can keep doing well," said the Impis coach Brian Power.
