Ado Ekiti — Ekiti State Governor, Segun Oni has appealed to the Federal Government to pay more attention to federal roads in the state, adding that good road network is the bedrock of his administration's revolutionary efforts.
Governor Oni made the appeal while playing host to the Minister for Works, Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Hassan Lawan in Ado-Ekiti.
Governor Oni disclosed that his administration has completed over 500 kilometres of roads in the State while more than 300 kilometres are still under construction, noting that the State Government was committing huge resources into road construction because of the importance of good road network to the government's developmental plans.
"We are not happy with the state of federal roads in the State and the federal government should please come to our aide. In the State now, we have good roads inside are good. It is like we have a very poor sitting room and you have a posh bedroom. How many people will go beyond the room?
"I, therefore, wish to appeal to you to urgently reconstruct the Igede - Aramoko-Ilesa, the Ikere-Akure road as well as the Lokoja-Obajana- Kabba-Omuo road because the poor state of these roads is hampering vehicular movement along the ever-busy Abuja - Lagos road thus making the movement of people, goods, services and farm produce difficult,", Oni said.
The governor commended the federal government for considering the State in its project, noting that the rehabilitation of Efon Alaaye-Erinmo road, which is being undertaken by the Federal Government, would boast the State economy and reduce hardships associated with road transportation.
Earlier, the Minister of Works, Dr. Lawan had expressed the desire of the Federal Government to address road problems in throughout the country, noting that road was part of the 7-Point Agenda of the President Yar'Adua administration.
He said his ministry needed the inspection of federal roads in Ekiti State so as to have a guide in the course of policy making.
