Harare — A 38-year-old man was last week hauled before a Harare magistrate and admitted to committing four armed robberies in three consecutive days.
Clever Mununudzi Nengomasha Weluzi Shawa of Sunningdale was arrested on October 28 in Chitungwiza but his two alleged accomplices were still at large.
Shawa admitted to the charges and narrated to the court how he committed the offences.
He said on October 22 he and Joramu Magomo -- who was also arrested and is facing robbery charges -- unlawfully entered Mary Klopper's house in Greendale.
They threatened her and her children with physical harm before stealing two laptops, two cellphones, R500 and four Zimbabwean passports.
They took keys to her home safe and stole US$1 500.
In all, the loot was valued at US$7 500.
The following day at around midday, Shawa connived with two accomplices to rob Michael James Proctor at his house in Alexandra Park.
The three, armed with two pistols and using a white Toyota Corolla as a getaway car, entered the house using the main gate.
They accosted Proctor and his workers and force-marched them at gunpoint into the house.
In the house, they took US$300, a cellphone and a Sony hi-fi.
One of them got into Proctor's Mazda B2200 pick-up truck and drove off.
The value of goods and cash stolen was put at US$8 100.
The same day at around 3pm, the three drove to Deborah Donnenly's house in Mount Pleasant in their Corolla.
They got into the house and forced Donnelly at gun point to show them her safe.
When she said she did not have a safe they ransacked the house and stole property including a 24-inch colour television, a DStv decoder, a digital camera, a Nokia 3310 and a toolbox.
On October 24, it is alleged, the accused -- in Magomo's company -- stole US$32 000 cash and airtime recharge cards worth $4 000 from Lucksprine Investments along Chinhoyi Street.
Working on a tip-off police arrested Shawa and Magomo at Zengeza 2 Shopping Centre.
Magomo was allegedly selling the airtime recharge cards at give away prices at the time he was arrested.
Shawa was remanded in custody to today for sentencing.
Mr Andrew Mudheredhe represented the State.
