Abuja — As part of activities to mark its 20th anniversary, the Prison Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), yesterday advocated that government should review the criminal law reform of the nation.

Disclosing this yesterday in Abuja at the 20th anniversary dinner/award night and launch of the N400 million appeal fund for a rehabilitation centre, the executive director of Prison Fellowship of Nigeria, Barr. Benson Iwuagwu said the kind of injustice meted out on prisoners was too much, saying government should look into reviewing the criminal law.

He said the greatest threat to the PFN and the peace of the country was the prison service or shuttle.

According to him, the PFN stands on the 7-point agenda of this administration which aims at alleviating poverty in the country, adding that the PFN is working on changing inmates and ex-convicts across the nation.

In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Senator Peter Adeyemo disclosed that the responsibility of building a better nation depended on everyone and not only the government.

Highlighting unemployment as a major challenge to the country, Senator Adeyemo blamed parents for not living up to their responsibilities, saying parents are not fulfilling their God-given roles.

"Those who would have become good citizens have found themselves in crime because of this," he lamented. He called on the government to support NGOs like the PFN so as to help Nigerians. The senator commended the government for supporting the rehabilitation of prisoners across the nation.
