Kigali — Therese Yeba UNFPA Resident Representative of Rwanda, Minister of Gender and Family Promotion Jeane D'arc Mujawamaliya and Barabas Yisa UNFPA Resident Representative of Eritrea
The just concluded continental meeting of Gender experts from 29 African countries has vowed to undertake an extensive campaign that calls for gender mainstreaming in national development frameworks.
The commitment was made yesterday at the closure of the five day workshop organized by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The conference was organized to help increase the experts' knowledge on gender issues on the continent.
During the seminar, participants shared knowledge and practical experience on gender issues that will facilitate effective gender programming in their home countries.
The conference also agreed to support various initiatives of African First Ladies, Women ministers and Women Parliamentarians to promote reproductive rights of women and men.
In her closing remarks, the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr Jeanne d'Arc Mujawamaliya hailed the work done by participants and urged them to deliver the message to their respective countries.
"This workshop should awaken your creativity and be open to criticisms designed to improve gender equity and women empowerment in your countries" said Mujawamaliya.
Mujawamaliya pointed out Gender Based Violence (GBV) as a major challenge the governments are still facing.
