Nigeria: Natcoms Urges Firms to Involve Advocate Groups in Their Promos

16 November 2009

Telecommunications companies in the country have been urged to involve advocacy groups in their sales promotions.

Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo, President of National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS), gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos recently.

He said that involvement of advocacy groups would ensure that claims by these companies in their sales promotions were authentic.

"We want to make sure that those things they promised get to lucky subscribers.

"We want to verify from subscribers whether monies claimed by these companies actually get to subscribers," he said.

The President of NATCOMS said that MTN and Etisalat always involved the association in their sales promotions and that the association could testify to their claims.

He said that he was at the final of MTN's 2010 promo in South Africa where a subscriber won N10 million while others also got financial rewards.

Ogunbanjo said that he collected phone numbers of some of the winners who confirmed that the monies were in their accounts four days later.
