Uganda: MTN Heathens Close in On 7s Crown

MTN Heathens have been granted their wish of wrapping up a memorable season in their own Kyadondo RFC backyard in a fortnight.

A dominant 31-0 battering of Makerere University Hima Impis at Dam waters grounds in Jinja on Saturday ensured a third win in as many legs of the Broadband 7s circuit.

In doing so, Heathens moved to 60 points, 18 clear of Impis who lost on a second successive surprise appearance in a final of this year's circuit.

Jonathan Bishop Onen went over twice while Michael Wokorach, Brian Kikawa and Ronnie Musoke added a try apiece as moved Heathens moved within a meager appearance of clinching a record seventh 7s title in just 10 years.

"We have performed admirably well but the job is not yet done. Winning all four legs will bring great satisfaction," Wokorach told Daily Monitor.

The Kyadondo-based side has already won the 15s league, Uganda Cup and the Hima-Makerere 10s. Heathens clash with archrivals G4S Pirates for the Supremacy Cup this Saturday before a 'lap of honour' at the final 7s leg.

Utl Kobs, winners in Jinja last year, won the second tier Plate competition with a nervy 17-14 win over Saracens through a rare hat trick of tries from Paul Barigye.

Coach Brian Makalama's Pirates won the consolation Bowl after pummeling Summerkamp 19-5.
