Globacom Limited, the official sponsor of the Super Eagles has congratulated Nigerians, the players, coaches and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for Saturday's victory in Kenya which earned the nation the qualification ticket to the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
The Super Eagles defeated the Harambee Stars of Kenya 3-2 at the Kasarani Stadium to join five other World Cup qualifiers from Africa. It will be Nigeria's fourth World Cup finals since the first appearance in 1994. Mr. Mohamed Jameel, Globacom's Group Chief Operating Officer (GCOO), said the qualification has justified the telecom giant's huge investment in the national team since 2004. He added that the qualification was made more exciting by the tough competition provided by other teams in Group B, including Tunisia and Mozambique.
"Globacom Limited joins millions of football loving Nigerians to celebrate the triumph of tenacity and team spirit of the Super Eagles in the highly competitive contest for the group's sole ticket to the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa", he said.
The Globacom GCOO said though there were tense periods in the course of the competition, Nigeria's qualification for South Africa 2010 did not come to Globacom as a surprise given the massive support from Nigerians and the determination of the team. "That they won the very important match in Kenya is a mark of their appreciation of the expectations of Nigerians to participate in the first World Cup to be played in Africa. Globacom is proud of the players, their coaches and members of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club who went all the way to Kasarani to cheer the players", declared Jameel.
He said, "This achievement of the Super Eagles is coming at a time Globacom has renewed its resolve to take our football to greater heights as the Official Partner to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Sponsor of all the National Teams. We remain resolute in our commitment to empowering the youth of this nation by enabling them to excel through their natural talents that have found greater expression in football. We are also proud to be the prime promoter of domestic football league through the Globacom Premier League, a platform that has been the spring board for our very brilliant players in the various national teams".
