Jalingo — The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences (ICPC) have been urged to focus their attention on Taraba State.
A Jalingo-based businessman, Malam Suleiman Buba gave the advice in an interview with Daily Champion in the Jalingo, Taraba State recently.
According to him, the EFCC and the ICPC have ignored high level of corruption in Taraba State.
He said the two anti-corruption agencies should probe the 16 local government councils in the state and find out from the local government employees, especially the junior ones about their monthly salaries.
Buba called for probe of payments of projects executed by these councils chairmen.
He alleged that most of council chairmen, and their treasurers do not pay their staff salaries completely and promptly after receiving the Federation Monthly Accounts Allocation.
He said that despite the promise by Governor Danbaba to fight corruption in the state, some of the council chairmen are not taking the governors statement serious.
According to him, Ardo-Kola, and Karim-Lamido local government councils have been taken half salaries in the last few months, some staff were even paid quarter salaries by these council chairmen.
He said failure of the EFCC and the ICPC to come to grass root and investigate the activities of these council leaders and their collaborators, funds meant for developments and payment of staff salaries are being misappropriated by the chairmen.
According to malam Buba, it is high time the true anticorruption commissions to check the reckless mismanagement of pubic fund allocated to these local government for development by the Federal government.
Apart from checking the activities of the local government leaders , the EFCC and the anti-corruption personnel set-up by the Inspector General of Police should also come to Taraba and drive along the Jalingo to Tella road and Jalingo to Bali road respectively on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8:00am-5:00pm and see for themselves what motorist driving along those route are passing through, especially those conveying cows and food items to Iware and Garba Chede markets
