Uganda: Nansana Town to Get Aids Facility

15 November 2009

Kampala — NASANA Town Council is collaborating with Civil Society Organisation, a local NGO, to establish a sh40m HIV/AIDS centre.

The programme manager, Bob Bongole, said the centre will reduce the movement of AIDS patients from areas like Namungoona, Kasubi Nansana and Kawala to Kampala city where most people get their treatment.

He added that the town council, as part of activities to mark the World Aids Day on December 1, will organise a race geared towards raising sh40m to secure premises for the proposed centre.

Nansana has a population of 100,000 people, of whom 700 are living with AIDS and are struggling to access treatment.
