The annual Botswana women golf championship takes place this weekend in Gaborone with about 35 competitors expected to vie for top honours in the closed event.
The tournament will be staged at the Gaborone Golf Club by the Botswana Ladies Golf Union (BLGU). Registration will start at 7am while the tournament tees-off 30 minutes later.
There will be prizes for the golfer whose ball gets closest to the hole on all the short par threes and the player who hits the longest drive. In addition, there will be prizes for net and gross scores. The fairways of the course are mostly generous. However, strategically placed fairway bunkers can transform an offline drive into a scramble for bogey. Most of the greens are large with a fair amount of undulation. The course features flat greens with deep bunkers around them.
Players who hit many greens and make a lot of birdies will be carry the day in the tournament. It is anticipated that the field will see new entrants into the golfing arena.Prize giving will be held on Sunday around 1pm. The tournament is sponsored by Investec, Bifm, Khumo Properties, Distell and Repsol.
