Botswana: Masunga Hosts Paralympics

Francistown — The Paralympics Association of Botswana (PASSOB) will launch its sports awareness campaign at the Masunga Stadium tomorrow.

PASSOB president, Thuso Rasetapa told Mmegi Sport that they will introduce their executive committee to the community during the launch.

The committee is made up of Rasetapa with Shirley Keoagile as vice president, Tendani Magazine as secretary general, Carina Bodika (vice secretary general) Kgosietsile (treasurer) Moses Sello (public relations officer) and Onkabetse Kavinja Hevita (additional member).

"We are going to start our day with a march from the Masunga Primary Hospital to the stadium. Thereafter, there will be speeches by the chief guest, Charles Tibone who is the Member of Parliament for the area," Rasetapa said.

Besides, Tibone who is the Assistant Minister of Finance, PASSOB have invited newly elected deputy Speaker, Pono Moatlhodi to outline the role Parliament will play in helping advance paralympics in Botswana.

The launch will be marked by volleyball and basketball matches and athletics for wheelchair-bound, mentally-challenged and visually-impaired. There will also be Goal Ball, a sport played by the hearing-impaired. Rasetapa said funds permitting, they hope to send a team for a Goal Ball tournament in Egypt from December 5-11. PASSOB has been sending teams outside the country, especially to Zimbabwe where the sport is played.Rasetapa said their aim is to help change the scope of sports in Botswana.
