Francistown — Caretaker TAFIC coach, Ricardo Marape has said he will not play second fiddle to anyone hired to take over from the sacked Willard Khumalo.
"I have not signed anything with the club, but if they are to hire anyone, he will have to work under me. I am not going to play second fiddle to anyone because I am a highly-qualified coach. I am one of about five people in Botswana who hold high qualifications.
"At TAFIC, I have set a standard and anyone who comes in must better it," he said. He was reacting to reports that TAFIC have hired a Zambian to replace Khumalo. He said the said Zambian attended a training session this week but nothing concrete was agreed.
Marape was roped in three weeks ago after the firing of Khumalo from Zimbabwe. He has managed to turn around the fortunes of TAFIC in the short period he has been in charge notching victories against Motlakase and Nico United. However, the club lost 3-0 to Boteti Young Fighters in a game Marape accused senior players of betrayal.
TAFIC chairman, Bushy Moswate denied that his team has hired a new coach. He is full of praise for Marape.
"We have not hired Marape but we will come to a decision soon," he said. He denied reports that he has snubbed a request by supporters for a meeting. He said supporters have never requested a meeting with him, contrary to claims that they have asked to be addressed on the welfare of players and the whereabouts of money the club got from be MOBILE, television rights and gate-takings. "We will have to meet at a proper forum, not in informal gatherings," he said.
