Rwanda: Miss Rwanda Contestants in Camp, Only One Lady From Western Province

Miss Rwanda Pageant is entering its final stages with contestants from the four regions and Kigali City starting residential training.

The one month training which kicked off today, November 16 at Kigali Serena Hotel has only attracted one girl from Western province.

But other provinces including eastern, northern, southern and Kigali City have four representatives in camp. Some residents in Western Rwanda partly attribute the low enthusiasm in their area to poor mobilisation. In other provinces, organisers used local radio stations but some parts of the Western Province do not pick TV and radio signals from Kigali due to the hilly nature of the area.

Worse still the few ladies who registered could not meet the minimal standards "a Miss Rwanda should have." "They are not fluent in French or English. They are not intelligent and lack attributes a of a Miss, ," Cleophas Kabasiita, Rwandatel Communications Manager describes the ladies who turned up for the Miss Rwanda preliminaries in Western Province .

The telecom company is the major sponsor of the event.

"Imagine during question time a contestant was biting her finger nails, rubbing her nostrils. This is a sign they are lacking." A question could be posed to a contestant but she could not rightly answer," Kabasiita says. Ater flopping in Western, the primaries were shifted to Kigali but during the contest, only two ladies turned up.
