Uyo — The police in Akwa Ibom State yesterday arrested three repentant militants who kidnapped and attempted to kill one Mr. Obongette Okon.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Walter Rugbere said that the victim was whisked away from his Efiet Esuk Enwang village in Mbo Local Government Area and taken to Ikang in Cross River State .

Rugbere explained that luck ran out of the ex-militants when they were accosted by some policemen attached to the Ikang Police Station in Cross River .

According to the police boss, the former militants, who were identified as Asuquo Effiong, Michael Asuquo and Sunday Edak, had taken their victim to Cross River through a speedboat with the intention to kill him.

He said though, Okon was given a matchet cut on the head by his captors, he was still alive to tell his ordeal.

Rugbere disclosed that Okon's captors were apprehended when it became apparent that they actually abducted him.

He said the suspects, who had since confessed to the crime, were directed to commit the crime by their village head due to a chieftaincy tussle in the village.

Speaking on why they were arrested, one of the suspects; Effiong, said some of the chiefs in the village ordered them to deal severely with Okon.
