Nigeria: Pro-Sylva Campaign Group Faults AC On 2012 Re-Election Campaign

Yenagoa — A group, known as Concerned Bayelsans for Governor Timipre Sylva weekend faulted the claims of the Action Congress (AC) that they were being sponsored from the state fund to promote the bid of the governor for re-election in 2012.

They said such claims are unfounded and a deliberate attempt to cause breach of peace in the state. The National Coordinator of the group, Chief Richard Perekeme Kpodo had last weekend during a rally endorsed the state governor for second term and said the decision of the group to adopt the governor for second term in office was based on the conviction that his performance in the last two years and other years to come would mean the best for the state. The leadership of the Action Congress (AC) said though political groups in the state have the right to hold rallies and campaigns, the use of public fund by the governor to sponsor groups for the second term campaign is condemnable and criminal, insisting that he should focus on re-directing the state away from calamity where he had plunged it in the last two years.

But the group, said the claim by the leaders of the Action Congress was baseless and a figment of the imagination of those involved. The co-ordinator of the group, who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, challenged the leaders of the Action Congress in the state to make public evidence that the campaign rallies held by the group and others for the governor were sponsored by the state government. " The Yenagoa event, which was grand finale of our tour of local councils, was funded purely from contributions and donations of members and supporters of the governor," he said.
