Gambia: Thief Sentenced

One Ablie Bittaye, 21, a resident of Manjai Kunda was on Saturday convicted and sentenced by Magistrate Olajubutu Kayode of the Bundung Magistrates Court, after he was found guilty of two counts of store breaking and stealing.

According to the particulars of the offence, the accused on the 22nd of October 2009 at Manjai Kunda, broke into the store of one Ismaila Drammeh and stole various items the total value of which amounted to D9,700.

He was sentenced to one year imprisonment without an option of a fine on both the two counts. The magistrate ruled that the sentences were to run consecutively and also ordered for the stolen items to be returned to the complainant, Ismaila Drammeh.
