The D3.4 million market project for Brikama-ba in the Lower Fulladu West District, Central River Region South will soon commence.
The contract was recently awarded to Metalex by Gamworks. The project is jointly funded by the Janjanbureh Area Council and Gamworks and it will be constructed in a period of six months. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Brikama-ba, the chairman of the Janjangbureh Area Council, Alhaji Kekuta Ceesay, said the provision of social services for the community is part of his council's mandate. He noted that if the market is completed it will greatly boost the revenue base of the council through daily collection. He expressed gratitude to Gamworks and the central government for creating the enabling environment for councils to help mitigate the growing demands for the provision of more social services and infrastructural development for tax payers.
Fatou Travally, the women's leader, hailed the Janjanbureh Area Council for their effort in providing such service to the community. She said Brikama-ba is a large area with many cluster villages which will benefit from the market. For his part, Yusupa Manneh, the chief executive officer of the council, assured them that his council will seek partnership with Gamworks in order to provide them with more social services.
He called on the people in the area to pay their rates and taxes on time so as to enable the council to bring more development to the area. Gamworks project manager, James Furmos Gomez, presided over the ceremony.
