Port Harcourt — A former militant commander, Aduma Kirifori has urged the Amnesty Implementation Committee and the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ogbona Onovo, to assist in the release of some of his boys who were arrested by security operatives after they had keyed into the amnesty programme.
Kirifori, who spoke in Port Harcourt, said the 14 ex-militants were arrested for a clash that occurred between his group and another militant group in Foropa community, Bayelsa State, before the proclamation of amnesty for militants in the region.
He said he and his boys keyed into the amnesty and surrendered their arms in Bayelsa before the Commander of the Joint Task Force, General Sariki Yarki Bello, and his Sector 2 Commander, Col Victor.
Kirifori said they were subsequently registered and issued with identity cards in line with amnesty rules.
But shockingly, according to the former commander, security operatives later arrested fourteen of his boys over a skirmish that occurred before the amnesty.
