Kigali — Taqwa, a Tanzanian bus operating company has opened new routes, the longest of which being from Kigali to the Zimbabwean capital of Harare.
Passengers taking this route will have to endure four days of travel and occasional stops for rest.
The company's Country Manager, Ali Kenya said: "These new routes will offer Rwandans new travel and trade opportunities within East, Central and Southern Africa."
He also pointed out that the roads are generally good and so is the security.
"The road from Kigali to Dar-es-Salaam is now in very good condition apart from a section of about 65 kilometres at Manyoni that is still under repair," he said.
The company which has been operating the Kigali - Dar es Salaam route via the Rusumo border post recently opened a number of other long routes to Lusaka in Zambia, Lilongwe in Malawi, and Lubumbashi in DRC via Gisenyi.
It has existed for over 25 years operating a big fleet of luxury buses within East, Central and Southern Africa countries.
Management says they the prospect of linking passengers to South Africa by 2010 in time for the World Cup.
