Accra — A Virtual Study Abroad Programme will be launched in Ghana in January 2010. The programme is a collaborative effort between the African University College of Communications (AUCC) of Ghana and Simmons College of the United States.
The main purpose of this course is to create a multimedia -based virtual study programme that will enable students from the two different countries interact with each other through the use of streaming video, audio, and social networking sites in order to get practical skills in radio production, broadcast writing, and video production to develop friendship in real time.
"This unique programme will inform America and the rest of the world of the many interesting things that are happening in Africa and help to make the world a smaller place through cross cultural learning," said Mailloux of Simmons College.
The programme will use the power of Simmons College Radio Station in the U.S.A and other online multimedia to connect with students of AUCC in Ghana by enabling students and faculty members of both universities to actually see themselves on their respective screens in their homes countries as they teach and learn together.
Officials from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A including Prof Jim Corcoran, Chairman of the Communication Department and Professor of Journalism, Mr.Len Millou, General Manager of Simmons College Radio, and Mr. Kojo Yankah, President of AUCC, Prof. Reginald Jackson, Dean International Programmes, and Mr. Kweku Nsiah Mensouh, IT Department, are the team assisting with the development of the programme.
