Nigeria: Amodu Knows Fate Soon - NFF

Abuja — As the clamour for the sack of Super Eagles Head Coach, Shaibu Amodu continues to rage, the Nigeria Football Federation yesterday said only its board has the power to do that.

The former BCC Lions of Gboko and Oralndo Pirates of South Africa handler last week Saturday handed the country a ticket to the South Africa 2010 World Cup, courtesy of the Eagles' 3-2 away win to Kenya, but many Nigerians are clamouring that an expatriate be hired to lead the country to the mundial next year.

Disclosing this in a chat with reporters yesterday, Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary, Chief Bolaji Ojo-Oba explained that a meeting will soon be held between the board and its technical committee to take a decision on the matter.

Ojo-Oba who spoke to reporters at the NFF Glass House secretariat in Abuja, urged Nigerians to be patient with the football house to make consultations before taking a decision that would favour the nation's football.

According to Ojo-Oba, the country's football ruling body would seek the advice of its technical committee, whose head Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi is currently out of the country on an official assignment.

"We have just qualified for the World Cup in South Africa next year, what I will say is that Nigerians should give us time, we are going back to the drawing board to discuss the issue of whether Amodu or not with stakeholders, particularly the technical committee, whose chairman is away on assignment", Ojo-Oba stated.

In another development, Ojo-Oba yesterday said the planned international friendly match between the Super Eagles and the Argentine senior national team has been called off.

Ojo-Oba, who refused to give reasons for the cancellation of the friendly tie, however assured that the football ruling body would organize high profile matches for the senior team to test its might before the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola next February.
