Abuja — The Federal Government has warned contractors handling federal road projects across the country against giving useless excuses default in the timely delivery of projects.
The warning was given by the Minister of Works, Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Hassan Muhammad Lawal, at the weekend during his inspection of ongoing federal road projects in Kaduna and Katsina states.
He said: "Where a contractor does well, we will commend him. Where he does not do well, we will condemn him".
At the site of the Kaduna Eastern Byepass project being handled by Messrs Eksiogullari, Dr. Lawal said, "I am grossly dAisappointed with the pace of work. The explanations of the contractor are mere excuses. I appreciate the fact that we experienced some challenges in terms of underfunding in the previous years. But since this government came in, there had been remarkable improvement in the area of funding."
He revealed that N3billion was made available to the firm last year, and another one billion is in this year's budget, saying," "I do not see any reason why a project of this nature should linger for seven years. This is unacceptable. The purpose of this Eastern Byepass is to compliment the Western Byepass, so that at least, we decongest Kaduna Metropolis."
He gave the firm three months to show marked progress or else the project will be terminated.
