Botswana: Production House Releases Mixtape

Francistown — Renowned Francistown production house Botsa Majita Productions has released a 23-track Hip-Hop mixtape featuring several artists from Francistown and other parts of the country.

Botsa Majita is a studio run by three youths Thabani Michael also known as Brownstick who is the producer, Dunyo Mahachi a.k.a Damaj, who is stable lyricist and Brian Mabutho, the spokesperson for the stable. The trio say that they wanted to release an album in honour of Francistown as they say hip-hop was born in this city. Damaj said that Francistown has been known for its hip-hop talent since the 1980s. "Groups like Ghetto Flava, Lords of the Ghetto and many others are from this city," he said.

He said that even now in the hip-hop community majority of the artists originate from Ghetto. "The Ghetto has been dormant for a long time, but it is about to erupt like a volcano," he said.

The mixtape titled The Rise of the Ghetto, featuring more than 12 hip-hop artists is already complete and they are working on marketing it.

Asked why Hip-Hop Mabutho said that there is a lot of unrated talent in Francistown, he said: "We have taken it upon ourselves to expose them and let them be heard," he said.

He said that many people who have resources, but have talent have not gotten a chance to get their voices heard and this is what they were working at with this mixtape.

The producer, Brownstick, says that the mixtape is bound to get a lot of positive response because of the quality of songs and the artists that they have featured.

"We are featuring guys like Nomadic, Buckshot, Damaj, Apollo Diablo, Dice, Bico-G Montana, Lords, P-square, CodePexie, Oracle, Gudday, Goddamit, 2soul, Emma and others," said Brownstick. He said that the mixtape is the prelude to the albums that some of the artists will be releasing next year. There are several hit songs in the mixtape and Brownstick talks on few that are favourites and are bound to make an impact in the music industry. "Sexy and beautiful, featuring Oracle, Damaj, Lord and 2Soul is one of the hit songs that we have on the mixtape," he said. He also talks about The Ghetto featuring Damaj and Lord, The Rise of The Ghetto featuring Apollo, Dice, 2Soul, Simba and Damaj. "We are also featuring the talented vocalist Emma in the track Lord Given which she sings with Damaj," he said.

The trio say that they are proud because this is the first mixtape to be made in this town. Brownstick says that the launch of the mixtape is scheduled for December 19.
