Lagos — THE Kaduna State Commissioner for Information, Saidu Adamu, said in Abuja on Sunday that the 2010 African Cup of Nations would serve as a litmus test for Super Eagles ahead of the World Cup.
Adamu said that the nation's senior national team did well to qualify for the 2010 World Cup and urged it to use the Nations' Cup to test run players for the World Cup in South Africa.
He said that a lot would be needed to ensure that the Eagles excelled in South Africa.
"The Nations Cup is equally important as the 2010 World Cup would begin shortly after the African tournament in Angola.
"The Nations Cup should serve as a test to guarantee the Eagles' ability to excel in South Africa," Adamu said.
He urged coach Shuaibu Amodu to make the best choice of players if appointed to take the team to the Cup of Nations.
"Based on the players' performance, he should know which player should be selected for the World Cup and the necessary amendments needed by the team in South Africa.
"It is in the Nations Cup that the players will be tested and the best selection made for the World Cup," he added.
The Super Eagles beat Kenya 3-2 in Nairobi on Saturday to finish top of Group B with 12 points ahead of Tunisia, who went down 0-1 to Mozambique in Maputo.
Before the matches in Nairobi and Maputo, Tunisia led the group with 11 points while Nigeria trailed with nine.
