Uganda: Low Cost Estate Unveiled

Kampala — AN ultra-modern community housing project that will provide low-cost homes has been unveiled. The project is a joint venture between Bageine Company Ltd., Pinnacle Projects Ltd. and the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC).

Presiding over the function at the Serena Kampala Hotel last week, Daudi Migereko, the Government chief whip, said the project could help Uganda attain its Millennium Development Goals targets of improving the lives of slum-dwellers.

"Uganda lacks about 1.6 million housing units, while Kampala alone needs more than 100,000 decent houses." The Government abolished the 5% value added tax on sale of houses in this financial year's budget to make it easy for people to acquire decent homes at low prices.
