Kampala — HENRY Tigan might be a household name in the Ugandan music industry but the singer is yet to have the aptitude to attract huge crowds to his shows.
Either that or it was the publicity that preceded the show that was not ample. During his Wadawa album launch at Rugby Grounds on Friday night, Tigan was baffled by the small crowd despite the fact that his music is fancied by all sorts of fans.
Nevertheless, with a formidable line-up of curtain raisers, including international reggae star Marlon Asher, the audience got a real treat. Things got off to a rousing start with Jose Chameleone taking to the stage first.
This was not a bad idea, but it also meant that whoever came on next had to keep the pace the Leone Island boss had set. Chameleone was followed by a bevy of performers, such as Renah Nalumansi, Micky Wine, Buchaman and DJ Michael. The performance was also disrupted by a temporary power blackout, which lasted almost 40 minutes.
The crowd roared as guest performer Marlon Asher slid onto the stage belting out Ganja Farmer, his most popular hit to date. He performed several lesser-known titles before inviting Henry Tigan to join him on their collabo and World of Scandals, which inspired a sing-along.
Asher then ceded the stage for Tigan to cap the show. With the aid of a live band, Tigan took us through his musical journey, performing both old and new songs. He performed nonstop for about 90 minutes, but it was Abogezi and Anegaanye that made the audience leap to their feet.
