South Africa: They Hate Us, Says Zimbabwean Woman

17 November 2009

Scores of De Doorns residents, most of them farmworkers, ripped down shacks belonging to Zimbabweans this morning, accusing them of "stealing our jobs".

The Zimbabwean families were forced to pack up their belongings and seek refuge in a community hall in the Hex River Valley town, which is about two hours from Cape Town.

As residents, armed with sticks and stones, raced through the Ekuphumleni informal settlement tearing down makeshift homes, police fired rubber bullets and used a stun grenade to disperse them.

Angry residents said they wanted the Zimbabweans to leave De Doorns and that local farmers were opting to employ the Zimbabweans ahead of South Africans.

One Zimbabwean woman, who was too frightened to give her name, stood alongside the N2, which runs through De Doorns, her belongings stacked beside her.

"They hate us because we work harder than them and we work every day," the woman said.

I think those affected Zimbabweans should humble themselves, do not seek revenge. Zimbabweans always cherish humbles, hardworking, honesty, resilience and peace as a national factor. This is our national simple deep that no one can rob from us. Those ho attack you it s very sad that they have not learnt this secrete of life from you. This is not the end of life buy it is the beginning of the new chapter in your lives. Here back home some of us are working hard to make the GNU yield the expected fruits. This is a challenge to every men, women and child we will get there and those in Diaspora will soon come back with all the god experiences the got over the past years of self dispensation. To the people of De Doorns I say seek secretes of good workmanship conducted by your victims so that you get to quench your ego. I think somebody has to help De Doorns community define their problem. Even if all the foreigners left them alone it does not solve their problem. The secrete in life is nothing for nothing, you rip what you sow, and what you earn is in direct variation to the amount of effort and time you put in.

I cannot agree less with Lovemore. Jealous does not make anyone better. De Doorns community should learn that they can only benefit from hard work and not jealous. They should emulate the spirit of hard work. For our fellow Zimbabweans it doesn't help to keep forcing yourselves on the South African communities who are clearly prepared to murder you for your hard working spirit. That energy is bewtter off spent improving Zimbabwe where your future is. Some of us have never left Zim and we are here going on with our lives. Its only a matter of time, Zimbabwe is rising and needs your invaluable contribution. The graph may also fall in the foreign countries that today are attracting you for slavery!
