Tunisia: 2009 JCI Congress Highlights Climate Change And Fight Against Malaria

Tunis — A news conference was held on Sunday at the sea side resort of Yasmine Hammamet as part of the 64th edition of the Junior International Congress JCI scheduled for November 16 to 21, 2009.

Inaugurating the works of the conference, Mr. Jun Sup Shin JCI president said that the congress "will focus on identifying solutions related to climate change and the fight against malaria in Africa by raising 10 million dollars to protect African children against this disease.

He added that this congress is an occasion to further reinforce the values on which the action of the JCI is based namely solidarity, an essential value to cope with the challenges facing the world.

He added that the JCI is in line with to UN objectives, especially the Millennium development objectives.

In an interview with "TUNISIAONLINENEWS", Mr. Shin said JCI strives to cope with climate change which has serious consequences on the environmental stability and well being of our planet".

"The aim is to encourage young members to develop action plans that can fight against this threat even before the intervention of their states", he added.

On his part, Mr. Edson A. Kodama, JCI Secretary General, noted that Tunisia was chosen by the JCI General Assembly's Elections Committee, held at its 2007 Congress in Turkey, "The majority of 100 member countries voted for Tunisia " he said.
