Uganda: Wife Killer Handed Life Sentence in Prison

"The bedroom is supposed to be a house of love, mutuality, and comfort for a couple not a slaughterhouse," said Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, while sentencing a man who killed his wife to life imprisonment.

Alfred Akor, a nursing officer at Mulago Hospital was convicted for killing his Josephine Adong, a former teacher of Ireda Primary School.

The High Court in Lira heard that Akor, on July 1, 2007 used a panga to kill his wife in their bedroom.

Justice Byabakama said cases of husbands killing their wives are very common in the region.

The same court sentence a boda boda cyclist to 18 years imprisonment for defiling a two-year old child.

Denis Ogwang, 18, of Bar Opu in Boroboro, in Lira defiled the girl in a bush.
