THE Government is working towards modernising all the markets in the country, Vice-President George Kunda has said.
Mr Kunda said the Government was concerned about the problems marketeers were facing in Solwezi and that it would work with parliamentarians in the area to resolve them.
He was speaking when he toured five markets in Solwezi.
And Zambia National Marketeers Association secretary general Enock Chifuka said the association would always support the government of the day.
Mr Chifuka appealed to the Government to tar the roads leading to the markets in Solwezi and to build a police post to improve security.
And the vice-president has advised the electorate in Solwezi Central not to vote for the opposition which he said could not develop the area.
He said the MMD was the only party that enjoyed unity and peace, adding that if the people voted for an opposition candidate there would be divisions in Solwezi.
Mr Kunda said he was aware that there were a lot of malpractices and electoral violence in the campaigns.
