THE National Breweries yesterday launched its anti-litter campaign in all its outlets countrywide aimed at promoting the 'Keep Zambia Clean and Healthy Campaign' that was launched by late president Levy Mwanawasa in 2007.
The anti-litter campaign would include placing posters and putting garbage bins in its outlets to enable customers throw litter in designated places.
Speaking in Lusaka during the launch, Acting Local Government and Housing Minister, Bradford Machila said the Government was grateful to private companies that had continued to give support to make the 'Keep Zambia Clean and Healthy Campaign' a reality.
Mr Machila, who is Livestock Minister, was speaking at the National Breweries Q Bar in Garden Township, adding that the company's campaign was significant because it would help in creating a clean environment.
He commended the company for its recent donation of K120 million to the Lusaka District Disaster Management Team.
Since 2007 when the late president Mwanawasa launched 'Keep Zambia Clean and Healthy Campaign,' he said the Ministry of Local Government and Housing had been tirelessly working with stakeholders to make the campaign a success.
Mr Machila said the National Breweries' initiative was highly commendable and would help in sensitising members of the public about the importance of throwing litter in designated places.
He, however, called on the bar owners to desist from allowing children into drinking places, saying this would have negative effects on their future.
Mr Machila said the Government was ready to have meetings with various stakeholders on how best the issue could be addressed.
National Breweries PLC operations director, Ronny Palale said his company was concerned at the accumulating litter in various communities and it was for this reason that it had embarked on the campaign.
Among others who witnessed the launch were Local Government and Housing Permanent Secretary Coillard Chibbonta, Lusaka District Commissioner Christah Kalulu and Mandevu MP Jean Kapata.
