THE House of Chiefs has said attacks on the Judiciary by opposition political leaders and some civil society organisations are not being done in good faith.
And 12 Luapula Members of Parliament (MPs) have criticised Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata for his continued attacks on the judiciary and described his style of politics as "chameleon politics".
House of Chiefs chairperson, Chief Madzimawi said in an interview in Ndola yesterday that it was sad that some people could choose to attack the judiciary for acquitting second Republican president Frederick Chiluba when there were other judgments which had gone uncondemned.
He said it was unfortunate that some people would remain quiet on other judgments, which went in their favour, yet condemned the judiciary for acquitting the former president.
The chief was commenting on recent attacks on the judiciary by Mr Sata and United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema.
Chief Madzimawi, however, said the chiefs would issue a comprehensive statement at the end of their five-day conference being held at Savoy Hotel.
He challenged opposition leaders to publicly expose traditional rulers whom they allege have been 'bought' by the Government.
And the 12 MPs from both the ruling MMD and PF in Luapula Province said in a statement released in Ndola yesterday that Mr Sata was in a hurry to get to State House.
The MPs who included Ben Mwila for Nchelenge, Katele Kalumba for Chiyengi, Peter Machungwa for Laupula, Joseph Kasongo for Bangweulu John Chinyanta for Mambilima, Elizabeth Chitika-Molobeka for Kawambwa, Mwansa Mbulakulima for Chembe, Benard Chisha for Pambashe, Besa Chimbaka for Bahati, Crispin Musosha for Mansa, Jacob Chongo for Mwense and Ernest Mwansa for Chifunabuli constituency, said that they were also disgusted at Mr Sata's wanton attacks on Luapula chiefs.
The MPs said it was sad that Mr Sata had now decided to twist his tongue over the issue of Dr Chiluba and was now accusing President Rupiah Banda of having played a role in the acquittal of the second Republican president, when in actual fact the courts that handled the case were competent and independent to come up with the judgment.
They said Mr Sata was fond of changing his tactics to garner support from the non-governmental organisations.
The MPs said they acknowledged the fact that the PF leader had conceded to the Press that he had during his presidential campaigns in 2006 promised the people of Luapula that he would release Dr Chiluba once he got into power, but that it was surprising that he was now telling the nation that he made the undertaking before he met the late president Levy Mwanawasa.
And when contacted, Mr Sata said he had nothing personal against Dr Chiluba and his wife Regina but that by writing the Chief Justice over the isue of Second Republican President's wife, he was merely seeking clarification which he said he wanted to use to explain to the people.
Mr Sata said as a political leader, he was entitled to seek clarification on behalf of the doubting masses and that he had also written to President Banda over the same.
He said he had only two MPs in Luapula Province in the names of Davies Mwila for Chipili and Samuel Chitonge for Mwansabombwe constituency while the rest were all MMD MPs.
Mr Sata also maintained that the PF would go as far as the High Court to seek clrification whether Chief Puta had the right to ban the PF activities in his Chiefdom.
