Abuja — The Abia State government has said that it is constructing a ring road that will service the Aba industrial in the state, governor Theodore Orji has said.
Speaking when he received a delegation of Senators in the government house Umuahia who were on tour of erosion sites as part of the 2009 retreat of the Senate in the South East region, the governor said his government was committed to providing road infrastructures in the state.
Represented by his deputy, Comrade Chris Akomas Governor Orji disclosed that, the Abia state government has from its inception in 2007 to date expended over N5 billion naira in rehabilitating and maintaining federal roads within the state.
He said the state government spends its meager resources on federal roads saying, "We have committed over N5 billion naira in constructing and rehabilitating federal roads in Abia state in addition to constructing roads that links our villages. This we do every dry season due to erosion."
Earlier, Senator George Thompson Sekibo (PDP, Rivers) who the delegation comprising of six Senators said, they were in the state on a fact finding mission of the issues affecting the state such as erosion and underdevelopment.
