Namibia: 'Don't Waste Votes On Losers'

BRAGGING about the lead the Swapo Party had taken in the presidential and National Assembly elections after seagoing workers and Namibians living abroad cast their votes on Friday, Swapo vice president Hage Geingob on Sunday told opposition parties' supporters to rally behind the winner.

Addressing a rally at Lüderitz on Sunday afternoon, Geingob said: "You must support the winner. If they (opposition parties) could not win abroad, how could they win here?"

"Don't waste your votes on losers," he added.

Geingob called on Lüderitz residents to vote for the ruling Swapo Party for "progress and economic stability".

Without mentioning names, Geingob said some people, who he claimed suffer from a "Savimbi syndrome", are causing problems because they want to become president.

"The moment Savimbi (Unita rebel leader Jonas Savimbi) died, there was peace in Angola," Geingob said.

At the rally five people, who claimed to be RDP members, rejoined the Swapo Party.
