Nigeria: Warri Council Executes 40 Projects - LG Boss

Warri — Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area (LGA), Mr. Mofe Edema said his administration has been able to deliver the dividend of democracy to the people, while also disclosing that the council has embarked on over 40 projects, since his inception as the council chairman.

Mr. Edema disclosed this at the Maiden Edition of MEET THE PRESS being organized by the Warri Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for council chairmen.

According to him, all the wards in Warri South council area have in one way or the other benefited so far from the projects, which included the re-building of Merogun Primary School, renovation of a block of classrooms at Alieru Primary School, Solar Powered Streetlights, construction of Legislative Arm building, various water projects amongst others.

The Warri Council Chairman also stated that the council will from next year embark on re-construction of roads.

On youth empowerment, Mr. Edema said the council is training some youths on fishery, while over two hundred youths are engaged in revenue collection.

Mr. Edema assured the people of Warri South council of his commitment to bring the desired development to the area, urging the people to continue to support the state government in order to attract more dividends of democracy.

He said for the past a year and five months of his administration, the local government has embarked on massive renovation of school blocks and building of fresh building class rooms in the various parts of the council to improved the educational standard of his people.

In his words; "Is about a year and five months that we were sworn-in, we have embarked on more than 40 projects. Out of which almost all of them are near completion. There is no ward in Warri South that has not benefited from this administration. These are things that you can see and verify. Blocks of classrooms renovated, streets light in place in more than 6wards and a primary school knocked down is being built afresh. A construction of a new Legislative arm, the one British Embassy is more interested in, the King George the IV Memorial Hall, we have also built solar water system and the building of the Modular fishing village."

On health, the Warri South council boss, stated that his administration from his assumption has not toy with the health of the people, as the council has always involved in the immunization and sanitation exercises to get the area raid of dirty, adding that it is his administration desire to bring good health to the least person in the council.

"There is hardly any sanitation exercise I am not present, that is why I was given an award by Nigeria Safety Institute due to my contribution environmental cleanliness. Warri needs to be clean. We are not just doing it during sanitation, we do it every day but, we are not doing it for the lager scale because of the resources", he said.

Hon. Edema, who was on the NUJ hot seat for over two hours also disclosed that his administration is near to present a bill to the council legislative arm to banned blocking of major roads for parties by the members of the public in the council.

"Meet the press", the first of its kind by the Warri Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ is an avenue for local government chairmen in the state to tell the people and the world, what they are doing to bring the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

Hon. Edema commended the Warri Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for making council chairmen responsible to the people.

According to him, it was not possible for council chairmen to go from one place to the other telling members of the public their achievements in office so far.

In his words; "NUJ, what you have started is wonderful. It means that Nigeria is going somewhere. I am really impressed with this your meet the press; what you are doing now is to make council chairmen responsible to the people and I want the NUJ to keep it up."
