Osogbo — TIMI of Ede in Osun State, Oba Muniru Adesola Lawal has reiterated the need for the people of the community to pool their resources together towards the infrastructural development of the ancient town.
Recalling that a community need the cooperation of all its people both home and in the diaspora for meaningful development to take place, Oba Lawal declared his determination to turn the city of Ede to a modern town full of basic social amenities.
Speaking in Ede on Saturday at the grand finale of the 16th edition of Ede Day celebration and the launching of N1.5billion Development Fund for the town, Oba Lawal said the community is determined to be rated high in the state.
The ceremony also witnessed the conferment of chieftaincy title of the Ariwajoye of Edeland on the Oyo State governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala. His wife, Oluwakemi also bagged the title of Yeye Ariwajoye of Edeland.
The governor promised to contribute his quota to the socio-economic development of the community.
Speaking further, Oba Lawal, declared that "We need to inculcate the the spirit of self-development and promote our community and culture. This is why we deem it necessary to raise the necessary resources to meet our development needs because we are conscious of the fact that government alone cannot provide everything."
He noted that the community leaders under the platform of Federal Council of Ede Descendant Union had mapped out some projects that would form the priority and on which fund realised from the projected N1.5billion would be committed.
While using the occasion to invite investors to the town to establish their businesses, the monarch said that a conducive atmophere had been created for the businesses to flourish.
According to him, "there is conducive environment and access to relatively public power supply, regular water supply and vast land and friendly and accommodating people in Ede."
In his remarks, the Asiwaju of Ede, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke representing Osun-West Senatorial District in the National Assembly also called on friends and the people of the town to rally round the community in its quest of achieving development and conducive environment.
In his welcome address, the National President, Federal Council of Ede Descendants Union, Mr. Dele Adeyemi noted that the union has concluded plans to guarantee the physical development of the community adding that this has motivated the people in organizing the N1.5billion development fund.
