Kenya: Four G4s Officials Quizzed Over Loss of Cash-On-Transit

Nairobi — Four senior G4S security officials were on Wednesday summoned by the CID as investigations into the latest theft of millions of shillings on transit to UK continued.

The four spent several hours at the CID headquarters in Nairobi where they met the Officer in Charge of the Investigations Bureau, Mr Bernard Kimilu, and other officers on the case.

Their visit follows the questioning of airline staff and G4S staff who were involved in transporting the consignment of money from the company's Lusaka Road offices to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on the day the cash disappeared.

No suspect has been arrested so far nor has any of the stolen money been found.

G4S Communication manager Dan Okoth yesterday said: "We have been co-operating with police in the investigations".

The G4S officials' visit came as detectives investigating the theft failed to get new clues that could lead to the recovery of the stolen money believed to be foreign currency worth Sh117 million.

G4S has insisted that the full amount of the money on transit had been handed over to the airline which had acknowledged receiving the cash.

Detectives have since established that CCTV cameras were switched off when the consignment was being loaded onto the aircraft.
