Strong indications emerged yesterday that the Police anti-fraud unit, from Abuja, led by CSP Williams Adebowale stormed Ondo State capital, Akure, to begin a probe into Ogbese road project contract and alleged abuse of local government funds.

Vanguard gathered that the Ondo State Commissioner for Local Government, Mr. Charles Alademilehin was thoroughly quizzed over the local government funds.

The investigation, might not be unconnected with a petition by a group of Abuja-based lawyers, who wrote on behalf of Ondo Retrieval Group (ORG), to the Inspector General of Police, (IGP), Ogbonna Onovo.

The group had alleged in its petition that the government of Governor Olusegun Mimiko should answer some questions over the shoddy way the Ogbese road contract was awarded and how the local government fund has been expended since the administration came into office in February.

Attempts by Vanguard to speak with CSP Williams Adebowale, who led the Police anti-fraud team to the state to give full details proved abortive. He, however, said that as a civil servant, he was not allowed to speak to the press.

He later referred enquiries to the State Police Public Relations Officer. All efforts, however, to reach ths State PPRO yielded no result.

Nevertheless, when Vanguard contacted the State Commissioner for Local Government, Mr Charles Alademilehin, he said "I've not been interrogated concerning the issue. I am not a signatory to any account. The local government fund is intact."
