Botswana: KTM Set for Showstopper

Gaborone — Super choir, KTM Choir is set to end the year with the mother-of-all-shows, a culmination of a series of mini-shows.

The highlights of the showpiece will be the performance of KTM's signature songs, composed by KTM - Kgalemang Tumedisho Motsete. About seven compositions by the legendary composer, among them the Botswana national anthem, another song which many feel should have beaten Fatshe leno la rona as the national anthem, will be performed on the evening at Westwood International School in Gaborone West Phase IV on November 28 2009.

Other great compositions popular with the lovers of KTM's music include Tsibi-tsibi robi, ABC, segaba. KTM choir spokesman Kagiso Ragoeng says the night will be devoted to delivering musical taste of the great composer.

The choir will also play other great compositions such as Kulenyane, by Gomolemo Motswaledi, Botswana by Luka Disho, as well as several others by popular Lesotho songwriter, Joshua Mohapeloa.

It will not be all choral because several members of the KTM Choir are also set to unveil their various musical talents. Among them will be Lezibo Simon, who recently released his debut pop album, while a group called GK, an offshoot of KTM Choir, are singing gospel.

One of the highlights of the evening will be a classical song performance by one of the choir members, Bame Kopong, who seeks to fashion out a career in classical singing.

Two male singers Tebogo Ntefo and Boitshoko Taedi will showcase their flute playing skills while another KTM Choir member, Koketso, will showcase his guitar playing exploits.

It will also be an evening of opera, as the choir performs a well-known Tswana folk song Chiwele, which they have turned into an opera item. Other KTM Choir members will showcase their talent in playing melodica, while some will display their dance skills in gumba, marabi, samba, traditional dance, to name a few.

Ragoeng, the KTM Choir spokesman describes the forthcoming concert at Mantlwaneng theatre as simply a talent show. "This is a variety show to expose some talents of members of the choir, including quartets, duets, traditional renditions, marabi, guitar solos and spice the evening with a live band as was done in the KTM choir's latest album, Molodi wa Pina".

The November 28 show starts at 7pm. Entry fee is P80.

Meanwhile, the choir is also hoping to go to the Choir Olympics in China in 2010. Ragoeng says this will without doubt put Botswana in the world map of choral music and in effect give the choir an opportunity to take up the challenge of competing in the world stage an opportunity all choirs dream for.
